We also offer completely private archaeology holidays ideal for an early or later season break. These are all-inclusive tours, with accommodation at a good local hotel, breakfast and à la carte dinner at your hotel, lunch at a suitable pub or tearoom whilst on tour, all entry fees, all ferry fares for island day trips as appropriate,  and the services of your personal archaeologist driver-guide included in the price.

Although these tours are private, we do offer discounts for larger groups, so bring your family and friends! Our 4-night, 3-day Orkney Insights archaeology tour shows you the best of the Orkney Mainland, and the linked South Isles including the Churchill Barriers. Our 6-night, 5-day Orkney Experience archaeology tour includes full day excursions to the neighbouring islands of Rousay and Hoy. If you have limited time in Orkney or would like to arrange your own accommodation we can also offer private day tours.

We can arrange tours of any length and we can customise your itinerary to your exact requirements but please note that our private tours are only available outside of our main small group holiday season, which in 2018  runs from the 28th April  to the 15th of September. Simply contact us and let us arrange your perfect break - whatever your interests.

''Four of us had a private one-day tour with Caz Mamwell of Orkney Archaeology Tours. Caz is a great tour leader - she has a real in-depth knowledge of the area and its history, as well as the ability to tell its stories in a fluent and interesting way. She was able to answer all of our questions and also to recommend good places to eat! She was very flexible, planning our tour to suit our abilities and interests. It was an inspiring start to our stay in Orkney; we visited places we would not have been able to see on our own, and our visits to other sites later in our holiday were enhanced by the knowledge we had gained from her. Her enthusiasm was infectious – we all want to go back to Orkney''.

''I have long been interested in Orkney, as a result of wide reading, especially the Orkneyinga Saga and Dorothy Dunnett's "King Hereafter" (based on the premise that Macbeth and Earl Thorfinn were one and the same), so it was fantastic to finally see the locations where these events were set. Caz has a wealth of knowledge ranging from the Neolithic age to the present, and is obviously still passionate about her vocation. We were more than happy with her guiding, the accommodation (new wing in the Ayre Hotel) was great and the three day tour for just the two of us was the highlight of our trip to the UK. We were especially glad not to be on the 52-seat tour buses going the other way! Highly recommended''.

''Three of us spent a fabulous day with Caz. We only had three days in Orkney & wanted to learn a lot, quickly! So we booked a full day with Caz & weren't disappointed. Caz took us to wonderful sites & she was a perfect guide: full of knowledge, interested & excited about the stories behind the artefacts, & able to give us more information than we could ever remember! Perfect! We were especially interested in the way people might have lived & Caz tailored our day so we saw all the pertinent areas. It was a bonus to be on our own with such an educated & personable guide who could give us a specific and wonderful day on a fabulous island''.
